SUNDAY MAJOR L.S.L.
SATURDAY DIV.2 L.S.L.
RESULTS
Sunday 28th February 2010 Lorcan Celtic 1 - 1 Clondalkin Celtic Stephen Cantwell
Following their early cup exit to St Joeys, Lorcan looked to get back on track and this time Clondalkin Celtic were the opposition. With both sides pushing for a top 4 finish it was all to play for in this tough fixture. Lorcan started very poorly and with only 2minutes played fell behind to a well worked goal down Clondalkins right hand side and when the striker turned and shot Ian Sweeney could only block the shot for it to fall to the feet of the oncoming player to tap home. Lorcan were stunned. It took another close scare with a clearance off the line by Jamie Connell and a double block by Ian Sweeney for Lorcan to gather to the pace of the game. After that it was all Lorcan. A quick break down the left by Paul Noonan put Stephen Cantwell in and his effort was just off target. Collie White was next to come close when he found some space at the back post only to fire over. Lorcan kept the pressure up and should have equalised before the half. It was much the same in the second half with Lorcan playing the more attacking football and Clondalkin settling for 1-0. This tactic wasn't successful as a long kick out and a well won header set Stephen Cantwell through and when he dummied the 2 centre halves he buried it bottom left corner. Then with only minutes remaining it was a long ball again to unlock the Clondalkin defence and this time it was Niell Spicer who had the glorious chance to snatch a late victory but this was not to be as his attempt was off target and both teams shared the spoils. A positive result for Lorcan who have a quarter final against Ratoath in the vere deane to look forward to now and try take this form into it. Sunday 14th February 2010 D.A.A 0 - 1 Lorcan Celtic (AET) Stephen Cantwell
Another great victory for Lorcan Celtic in a well earned and hard fought match against local rivals D.A.A. in the second round of the Vere Deane Cup. Lorcan started the match well, creating chances and playing some nice football in windy conditions. Chances in the first few minutes were few and far between and it was more of a midfield battle between the two sides. Some big tackles getting let go when maybe they should have been punished and stamped out from the start but this was not the case. With D.A.A doing all the mouthing at the ref it was Lorcan who were getting the 50/50 decisions going their way. This was to prove vital. Not many clear chances in the first half in this tight cup fixture as it went in 0-0 at the break. Lorcan remained unchanged at the break and continued to use their new found fitness to push D.A.A further into their own third and put them under extreme pressure. The gaffer made some changes and put on fresh legs to the cost of the local hero to name but a few. He looked disgusted!!! Both Robbie Meehan and D. Cock looked solid at the back and it was Robbie who came close when a well worked corner gave him 2 yards of space only for his header to rise over the bar. Lorcan got lucky when a back-pass fell short and a D.A.A. striker was only able to put the ball wide when confronted by Ian Sweeney. D.A.A started to look tired and were giving away a lot of possession late in the game. Lorcan tried their best to capitalize but this was not to be. 0-0 at full time and Lorcan looked the more likely to score in extra-time. They started the more sharp with more subs as Jamie Connell and Gavin Valentine took to the field. Neither team wanted to risk anything at the back and it stayed 0-0 into the 2nd half of extra time. D.A.A. were starting to get very abusive towards the referee as decisions now were all going Lorcans way. And with only minutes remaining Lorcan broke up the field with D. Cock a playing a lovely floated pass to Karl Price who put the ball in-between defence and keeper and when Stephen Cantwell seen the chance to open his legs their was only going to be one winner. Cantwell rounded the keeper but his touch took him away from goal but a cheeky back-heel fooled the covering defender who through his body on the ground and the ref deemed it handball! Stephen Cantwell calmed himself and buried the resulting penalty. This was a sickening blow for D.A.A and it finished 1-0 to Lorcan who advance to the next round. Great well deserved result for Lorcan who are already looking forward to the next round.
Sunday 24th January 2010 Balbriggan 2 - 1 Lorcan Celtic Stephen Cantwell First match of the new year for Lorcan and things could have gone better! After playing the better for the opening 25minutes and holding the majority of the possession Lorcan found themselves 1-0 down when the Balbriggan right winger snuck in behind the defence to slide the ball home. Lorcan regained composure and were much the better side throughout the game and with 20minutes remaining in the match Stephen Cantwell latched onto a loose ball in the box to lift it over the keeper making it 1-1. But Lorcan fell asleep and with some slack defending conceded almost immediately from the tip off. Unfortunately the ref wasn't up to scratch in this game clearly making some very poor decisions most notably their right full catching the ball in the box from our corner. But Lorcan didn't take their chances and were punished so a hard lesson has to be learned. Hopefully we can change a few things before next weekend!
Sunday 13th December 2009 Mid-Sutton 3 - 3 Lorcan Celtic Dave Raftery Stephen Cantwell (2)
It was a cold frosty morning in Malahide Park, where Mid-Sutton and Lorcan prepared for battle! After a delayed start the game kicked-off with both sides playing some neat and tidy football. Both sides knew the importance of the game as they both sat mid-table and as the last game before the Christmas break they equally needed to add points to their league tally. Although this, Lorcan never got out of the starting blocks and put themselves on the back-foot from the off. Somehow Lorcan found themselves 1 up when The Local Hero beat the offside trap to stumble over the ball in the box and miss-hit it into the far corner to beat the oncoming goalkeeper. It was such a poor goal he didn't bother to celebrate. A few minutes after that Ian Sweeney was clinically taken out of the game as Mid-Sutton desperately need to find a way back into the match. This proved affective as Mid-Sutton got their equaliser while Lorcan were contemplating the substitution. Niell Hannon went in goal and on came Stephen "Cant-train" Cantwell. Mid-Sutton were on top and made Lorcan pay for sloppy defending when they made it 2-1 before the half. After a few strong words The gaffer sent the lads back out onto the field raring to go!!! A ball through the defence gave Cantwell the chance to beat the Keeper to it and stick the ball into the empty net. This was followed by more poor football and once again Mid-Sutton equalised to make it 2-2. With only 10minutes remaining Lorcan looked tired and their football showed it! Some poor defensive play gave Mid-Sutton the chance to score only for a great double save by Niell Hannon to keep them out. The ball went down the other end and Cantwell got in-between the defenders and the keeper and once again stuck it past the keeper and into the empty net! 3-2 to Lorcan with only 5minutes remaining!!! Straight from the kick off Sutton broke down the right and a cross to the far post found an onrushing winger to meet the ball on the full and send it into the Lorcan net. This was the last bit of action and the two sides shared the points!!
Sunday 18th October 2009 Fai Junior Cup Lorcan Celtic 1 - 3 Rivervalley Rangers Stephen Cantwell
In horrible conditions Lorcan took to the stage against a well organised Rivervalley Rangers in the 2nd round of the prestigious Fai Junior Cup. After a shaky start and a few near chances for Rivervalley, Lorcan went on top when Stephen Cantwell latched onto a ball over the top to lob it over the oncoming keeper making it 1-0. Unfortunately that was as good as it got for Lorcan, as a Rivervalley corner got caught up in the wind and somehow managed to drift into the back of the net. It finished 1-1 at the break. Lorcan came out looking flustered playing poor rushed football. A mess up from a corner resulted in a scramble in the box and the ball somehow crossed the line. 2-1 to Rivervalley and Lorcan never looked like coming back! As Lorcan pushed forward trying to rescue the game, they got caught on the break with minutes remaining and a ball across the goal mouth was met by a Rivervalley player to seal the win and make it 3-1. A day to forget for Lorcan Celtic!!!
Sunday 18th October 2009 Vere Deane Cup Lorcan Celtic 3 - 3 Maynooth Town (Lorcan win 5-4 on penos) Paul Noonan (2) Neill Hannon
Lorcan took their good run of form into this Sunday's clash with unbeaten Maynooth Town in the Vere Deane Cup. Lorcan started the better putting Maynooth on the back foot from the off and with only 15 minutes gone a breaking ball found its way to the feet of Paul Noonan who made no mistake in smashing the ball past the struggling goalkeeper. Once Lorcan got the lead they seemed to sit back and let Maynooth come at them. This was punished when a deflected cross deceived everyone except for the left winger who snuck in to equalise from 6 yards. Lorcan were stunned and needed to really dig in, in order to go in all square at the break. After the break Lorcan again struggled to cope and 2 quick goals by Maynooth really put them in the drivers seat and at 3-1 it looked like too much to ask for a Lorcan comeback! But, with 20 minutes left Lorcan threw everything at the Maynooth defence who seemed to have settled for the 3-1 score line. A sharp cross, across the front of the goal was met by no other than Paul Noonan to once again smash the ball past the keeper and into the far corner. At 3-2 Maynooth were on the ropes so the Lorcan Gaffer made the extremely sensible decision of taking the "Local Hero" off and replacing him with Neill Hannon. This proved to be the turning point of the game. Neil showed his assets as the Maynooth defence was unable to match his physical presence and when a ball fell into his path with 5 minutes remaining, he needed only one chance to guide the ball past the keeper to make it 3-3. Extra time played out a stalemate and the match would be settled on penalties. Ian Sweeney saved the second spot kick and all 5 takers, including Ian himself made no mistake to seal a great win for Lorcan Celtic!!
Saturday 17th October 2009 St. Mochtas 4 - 1 Lorcan Celtic (SAT) Darren Bollard
The game started with Lorcan playing some impressive football from the off. Lorcan were on top for the first 25 minutes with Mochtas looking for a long ball over the top for their centre forward to get on to. Lorcan had a couple of chances through Ger Fagan, Finn Power and Darren Bollard but failed to convert any of them. Mochtas got their first clear chance on the half hour when their centre forward got through but his effort was saved by "The Cat" Mc Geough. Soon after Mochtas broke the deadlock when their centre forward latched onto a long ball and this time made no mistake to make it 1-0 to the home side. As the game headed towards half time with Lorcan pushing for an equiliser, yet again a long ball to their centre forward, who was so far off-side that Stevie Wonder would have seen it, but the referee let it go for Mochtas to get their 2nd goal. This led to a verbal disagreement between Jamie "The Monk" Connell and the Ref, the outcome of which saw Jamie being asked to leave the technical area. The first half ended 2-0 to Mochtas. The second half began with Lorcan feeling confident that they could get the next goal to put them right back in the game. After a switch in formation about 10 minutes into the half, Finn Power broke clear only to be cynically taking down for a penalty. Again the ref was lenient with his decision only producing a yellow card for the Mochtas keeper instead of a red. Farty Pants Bollard coolly slotted the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-1. Lorcan kept pushing when Con "The Tank" Sullivan hit the top of the bar from 20 yards. After hesitancy in the Lorcan defence Mochtas got their 3rd after Brian had saved the first but was unable to get to the rebound. It was now 3-1 but still Lorcan with a lot of pride and passion, kept their heads up and searching for another goal. Again Lorcan were unlucky not to score a 2nd on three occasions, when free kicks were deflected or misdirected away from goal. Just before the final whistle Mochtas got their 4th through their centre forward who came back from an off-side position. Even though the game ended 4-1, the better football and attitude came from the Lorcan players who were unlucky not to turn things around on this occasion but hopefully soon will!!!
Sunday 11th October 2009 Templeogue 1 - 2 Lorcan Celtic (SUN) Karl Price, Paul Noonan
After a great win the week previous Lorcan put their sights back on the league and hoped to add another 3points to their already impressive tally. Templeogue were the opponents of the day and after winning the Polikoff Cup and on a great run of form really fancied themselves to overpower Lorcan, but this was not the case. Lorcan started the stronger having a great chance at the back post that Robbie Meehan was unable to convert. As time went by both teams settled playing nice football on a large and windy pitch. Unfortunately it was Templeogue who got the opener when a break down the right resulted in their full back cutting across the box and only to pull the ball back to the onrushing striker who couldn't miss from 6yards. This didn't put any heads down as Lorcan then took a grip of the game and never looked back. Some silky football exchanges between Lorcan players made promising signs for the second half as it finished 1-0 at the break. Lorcan stepped up their game, when Paul Noonan picked the ball up 25 yards out from goal he got his head up early and spotted Karl Price open at the back post and with a pinpoint cross Karl gracefully rose and headed the ball into the top corner. Lorcan remained on top and pushed and pushed to find the winner. After winning a corner, Paul Noonan swung it in towards the back post and the cross was misjudged by all lobbing the keeper and drifting into the net! Truly a cracker! For the remaining 10 minutes Lorcan were under tremendous pressure especially down the Templeogue left hand side so Christy decided to re-insure the lads by bringing on the local hero just to settle us down. This must have worked as Lorcan stood strong and cleared their lines well. A 2-1 win was the result with Lorcan picking up a very important 3points. Well done lads!
Saturday 10th October 2009 Walkinstown 1 - 0 Lorcan Celtic (SAT)
It was a back to back clash between Lorcan and Walkinstown but this time Lorcan were the away side, unbelievably also appointed the same referee. Jamie was forced to make some changes to the squad due to Karl Price and Derek "Blankey Bear" Coughlan being on International duty with the Sunday side. Also missing was OLD man Christy Fearn who whimpered out with a bruise on his leg! Typical. The game started really well for Lorcan as a neutral spectator would have taught Lorcan were League leaders by their attitude, impressive passing and ball control. Walkinstown were on the ropes for large spells in the first half but unlike Bernard Dunne they didn't crumble at the first attempt! Lorcan had an array of chances to score with Clive, Joey, Will Murphy and most notably Finn "The" Power coming close! Despite Lorcan's best effort the first half ended 0-0. The second half continued much of the same as the first with Lorcan controlling the game. As the game progressed Walkinstown began to get a few chances of their own and unfortunately for Lorcan they managed to capitalize on a goal-mouth scramble! Lorcan needed to reply quickly but this goal really knocked them down! The game finished 1-0 to Walkinstown but Lorcan must take some heart from a very good performance and believe in themselves once again for their next fixture away to St. Mochtas
Sunday 4th October 2009 O'Neills Leinster Junior Cup St. Annes (Carlow) 1 - 2 Lorcan Celtic Gavin Valentine, Local Hero!
Lorcan Celtic hit the road for the first round of the Leinster Junior Cup playing St. Anne's of the Carlow District League. After advancing into the second round of the F.A.I. Junior Cup last week Lorcan wanted to do the same today! Team plans were not helped with the loss of 7 players to the squad but this gave Karl Price and Derek Coughlan the chance to shine on the big stage!!! St. Anne's needed no motivation as they had the chance to knock out a team from Dublin! They started the stronger trying to push their home advantage and put Lorcan on the back foot right from the off. They held onto the ball well for periods but not doing any serious damage to the Lorcan defense as they held out strong to overcome this period of pressure. With 25 minutes gone St. Anne's got their first real sight of goal when a long-range free-kick was only parried by Ian Sweeney but was cleaned up by the oncoming Robbie Meehan. Lorcan survived the first half and it went in 0-0 at the break. Lorcan could now feel that St. Anne's were running out of steam and this was proved when a hopeful cross from Gavin Valentine somehow managed to find the back of the net leaving their keeper scrambling on his line! Neither team looked like creating many chances but this was all changed when the referee decided to hand St. Anne's a lifeline by awarding them a penalty for what looked to be a well won header inside the box! Up-stepped the centre-half to take the peno. As he made his run up to the ball he tried to give Ian "the eyes" but this was to no avail as his spot-kick was unbelievably clawed out of the bottom right corner with a strong hand and was finally cleared once again by Robbie Meehan. But Lorcan's lead only lasted another 5minutes as a mix up at the back resulted in a loose ball rolling across the penalty area which was smashed into the back of the net! It was time for "the gaffer" to make some serious changes. He needed to pull a few strings in order to pull this one out of the bag! Up-stepped "The Local Hero" Dave Raftery to come on for the hard working Gavin Valentine. He made an immediate impact as he latched onto a through ball by Robbie Keogh to slot it home and give Lorcan the lead once again. This was about all he done in the 20minutes he was on the pitch but ah well it was the winner at the end of the day!! Lorcan was under some pressure in the last 10 but St. Anne's never really looked like scoring with some excellent covering defending by "Coxy". Unfortunately once again Lorcan got a man sent off when a second bookable offence was committed by Jamie Connell. Lorcan re-grouped and managed to see the game out quite comfortably!
Saturday 3rd October 2009 Lorcan Celtic (SAT) 0 - 2 Walkinstown
Saturday's game against Walkinstown was Lorcan's opportunity to get back on track. The game started well for the home side after a few changes had been made to the starting line-up. Joey "Off-side" Foster made the switch from wing to goalie, with "Farty Pants" Bollard playing up-front on his own and Colm Keogh making his season debut in a five man midfield. The game swung in Walkinstown's favour after a corner was not cleared and the return shot was flicked into the net to make it 1-0 to the visiters. To complicate matters the referee who was absolutely diabolical for both teams, with his unbelievable and amusing decisions. The most notable decision was when the unfortunate Sean O'Brien broke his arm just before the half and the Ref insisted that we play on while Sean was receiving medical attention on the pitch. The Walkinstown Keeper should of been sent off after leaving his area and blatantly taking Darren Bollard out of the game when he was clean through. The first half ended with Walkinstown up 1-0. The second half started with Lorcan searching for their equaliser and were awarded a number of free kicks after some fine play, but unfortunately could not break the Walkinstown resolve. Just as Lorcan were pushing forward they got caught by a Walkinstown counter attack and were duly punished with the away side making it 2-0. There were very few chances after the second goal was scored. All in all it was a disappointing result on the day!
Sunday 27th September 2009 Umbro Fai Junior Cup Lorcan Celtic (SUN) 6 - 0 Pro Italia Calcio Dublin Jamie Connell (3), Gavin Valentine, Stephen Cantwell, Daryl Leeper.
As the scoreline much suggests this was quite a one-sided match. Lorcan looking to get their "Junior Cup" off to a flying start, started the stronger when a Stephen Cantwell strike came back off the post only for Gavin Valentine to pounce and steer the ball into the roof of the net! The football was quite poor as Lorcan struggled to keep a hold of the ball but when doing so punishing Pro Italia were it hurts. A close range header from Jamie Connell after 20 minutes made it 2-0 and Lorcan never looked like loosing grip of the game. It soon became 3 when Gavin Valentine put in an inviting cross in behind the Italia defence and Stephen Cantwell didn't need a second chance as he slotted the ball into the net! Pro-Italia tried to play a high line and this was overcome when Daryl Leeper snuck in behind the defence and slotted the ball into the corner of the net! Lorcan went in 4-0 up at the break. After the break Lorcan just looked to settle their game down by trying to hold onto the ball and frustrate Italia by not giving them a look in! Lorcan went 5-0 up soon after when Jamie Connell pounced on a loose ball to slot it into the net. Unfortunately Lorcan let themselves down when they had two players sent off with ten minutes remaining. But this was not the end of it as Jamie Connell picked the ball up inside the Pro Italia half and went on a mazy run taking on every player in sight and finally rounded the keeper to complete his hat-trick and a 6-0 win for Lorcan. This win now gives Lorcan the chance to take on A.U.L. opponents Rivervalley Rangers in the second round. Much improvement is needed!!!
Saturday 26th September 2009 Freewheelers 3 - 1 Lorcan Celtic (SAT) Darren Bollard
SHOCKING . . . . No more to be said other than "Farty Pants" Scored
Sunday 20th September 2009 Clondalkin Celtic 3-0 Lorcan Celtic
Unfortunately our unbeaten run came to an end this week. It all started very well for Lorcan as they dominated the first 20 minutes having the better of the chances. Lorcan fell asleep for a 10 minute period and were heavily punished by a strong Clondalkin side. Three goals scored minutes apart as Clondalkin stunned Lorcan. It took the third goal for Lorcan to get their heads back in the game or it could of been an onslaught! With a few tactical changes at the break Lorcan composed themselves and pushed on looking for a goal. A wonderful strike by Collie White from all of 30 yards beat the keeper but couldn't dip in time as it smashed the crossbar and Neill Hannon was unable to convert the follow up cross from 5 yards. It remained 3-0 but Lorcan will be looking forward to the return fixture. Hopefully this game can be used as an "eye-opener" as we need to stay on top of our game if we want to make an impact on this league!
Saturday 19th September 2009 Lorcan Celtic 3-4 Knockmitten United Darren Taylor Karl Price Neil Spicer
Lorcan were looking to return to winning form in the game against table toppers Knockmitten. Knockmitten started better, while it took Lorcan 10 minutes to settle and start playing their own game. They got their noses in front through Darren Taylor after bad defending from a corner. Lorcan went 2-0 through Karl Price after a great ball from Christy Fearn. Lorcan were playing extremely well with Will Murphy in midfield the stand out player! Unbelievably Lorcan went 3-0 through Neil Spicer again from slack defending by Knockmitten. Knockmitten were still dangerous on the break and hit back just before the half making it 3-1. Knockmitten attacked straight away after second half tip off and were awarded a penalty which seen Liam Kelly being sent from the pitch (I think he tripped over the donkey leg). They duly converted the penalty with just 5 minutes gone in the second half putting Lorcan under extreme pressure for the rest of the game. Knockmitten equalised from a corner which was met well by their centre forward. Lorcan were still creating chances, 2 falling to Karl Price and 2 falling to Christy Fearn, with the keeper saving a backpost header with his face. The next goal would have been the winner for either team but unfortunately Knockmitten got it with 10 minutes to go! Unfortunately it was 3 dropped points, but if we can play for 90 minutes like we did in the first 45, League winners or promotion would be within our grasp!!
Sunday 13th September 2009 Parkvale 1 - 1 Lorcan Celtic (SUN) Neill Hannon Sundays game was the table topping game between Lorcan 2nd and Parkvale 4th. Lorcan's Management Team were not happy with the pre-match disruptions by 3 "Pretty Boys" who blatantly smothered themselves in Piz Buin Factor 100+ Sunscreen before the game. These individuals will not be named but their all 6 footish, 1's Red from the "Mun", 1's Blonde, Pink and from Sligo and 1's a Goalkeeper who brought the said prohibited item. Management says the names will be kept confidential this time but you know who you are. Lorcan wanting to continue their good form started the game slightly better, creating a number of chances through Stephen Cantwell and Neill "Patrick Kielty" Hannon who started his first full game. After a string of chances Lorcan finally broke the deadlock through a fine effort from Neill Hannon who beat the keeper with a low shot. Parkvale were dangerous in attack putting Lorcan's goal under considerable pressure but with a string of close range saves by Ian Sweeney and some good defensive play all-round, Lorcan were unbreakable at this point! Lorcan sensed there was more chances and were duly awarded a penalty after an off the ball foul on "Patrick Kielty" Hannon. After a delay Alan Cullen's penalty was finely saved by the keeper and Lorcan couldn't convert the rebound! Lorcan went in 1-0 up at the break after being the slightly stronger team. Two minutes into the second half Parkvale scored the equaliser after a fine solo run by a midfielder who evaded three tackles before slotting home. It took Lorcan a few minutes to settle as Parkvale were pushing for a second goal! Once Lorcan had got over the shock of conceding so early in the second half, they got back to the business of playing football and creating some decent chances. Both teams could have scored as the game opened up but sometimes Lorcan's final ball let them down. The game finished 1-1. Although it could be seen as 2 points dropped it, it can also be seen as a good point away from home against a strong Parkvale side who should be in the shake up at the end of season at the top of the table!!!
Saturday 12th September 2009 Lorcan Celtic (SAT) 0 - 0 Rosemount Mulvey
Lorcan were in search of their 3rd win of the season to continue their strong form so far in the league. The signs for the day were not good as the referee turned up 45 minutes late, leaving players uneasy for the start of the match (Lorcan players were at the pitch from 1.30 p.m. warming up). There were a few forced changes due to "Farty Pants" Bollard being out of the country and Steo "The Comet" Folan being unavailable. There were very few chances for either team in the first half, one notable one though came from a Christy "200 goals" Fearn free - kick which forced the keeper to make a fine save. Rosemount also had a fine chance, when a bad clearance by Brian "The Cat" Mc Geough was volleyed from the sideline towards the goal which was spectacularly saved by "The Cat". The second half was much the same with Lorcan having more of the chances through Karl Price"Less", Finn "The" Power and Simon "I'm Great" Quinn. Brian "The Cat" Mc Geough also made some fine saves, keeping Lorcan in the game! The Referee completed his fantastic performance when sending off both a Rosemount player and Lorcan's Derek "Cock" Coughlan for viciously attacking eachother with the ball. This game summed up a disappointing performance for Lorcan with the dropping of two much needed points.
Sunday 6th September 2009 Lorcan Celtic (SUN) 3 - 1 Greenhills AFC Robbie Keogh, Gavin Keane O.G. Ross Ringwood, Neill Hannon Lorcan were looking to increase their points tally and continue their good form so far in the League. Weather conditions were not suitable for fast flowing football but Lorcan got off the stronger when Stephen Cant "Score" was put through on goal on two occasions but both times brazen high and wide! The first half was scrappy and Greenhills never looked like scoring until a break down the right resulted in a whipping cross put low and hard into the box and Ian "" Sweeney was unable to deal with it and Gavin Keane decided to put the ball safely into his own net just on the half time whistle! Half time couldn't come soon enough, with Lorcan players getting onto eachother! At half time Christy pointed out that fighting with eachother wouldn't make them play better and encouraged to go out and play the type of football that they could as a team! 30 seconds into the second half Robbie "Sick Note" Keogh equalised with a fine shot to the top right corner from the edge of the box. Lorcan were now on top with Greenhills still dangerous and looking to drag Lorcan down to there game. 30 minutes gone in the second half substitute Ross Ringwood got onto a header by fellow substitute Rafo "Bin Laden", YES A HEADER WON BY RAFO!!! Ross coolly beat the keeper from close range! Greenhills changed formation and pushed forward looking for an equaliser and were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. The taker shot at goal but it took a deflection off the wall and Ian Sweeney was only able to parry the shot which gave the on rushing Greenhills a chance to equalise but this was not to be as Robbie "The" Meehan "Machine" put ball and player over the touch line for a corner. Lorcan's defence had played well all day and this was not to change from the corner. From the resulting clearance Stephen Cantwell was disgracefully clothes-lined by a Greenhills centre half, unfortunately the Referee who had a good game did not see the incident! Christy made his final substitution by putting on Neill "The House" Hannon who had immediate impact by latching onto a cross by Ross Ringwood on the left, his powerful header was saved by the goal keeper but he finished off the rebound! Another 3 points with a well deserved win, but hopefully our performance can go up a level for the oncoming fixtures!
Saturday 5th September 2009 Lorcan Celtic (SAT) 7 - 2 Esker Celtic Darren Bollard (3), Karl Price, Finn Power, Christy Fearn, Ger Fagan
Lorcan came into this game looking to get back on track after the set back on Monday with Esker also looking for their first win of the season. Lorcan settled quicker getting the first chances but not converting and then punished when Esker took the lead due to slack defending. This only served to spur Lorcan on who equalised through "Farty Pants" Bollard soon after and then took the lead with another from "Farty Pants". Lorcan were by far playing better football and went further ahead when Finn "The" Power scored from an unbelievable angle on the right after a clearance from Con "The Tank" Sullivan! Lorcan switched off and allowed Esker back into the game when stand in goalkeeper Stephen "Cat"well hesitated allowing the centre forward in to score Esker's second. Esker soon after had another chance when they hit the upright and the returning ball was cleared by "The Donkey" Kelly. Half Time couldn't come quick enough, with Lorcan on the back foot, this allowed them time to re-group. Jamie "The Monk" Connell restated the importance of the game and his half-time talk had the desired effect. Lorcan started the second half with the bit between their teeth pushing forward at every opportunity and defending well, Esker's resistance was finally broken with a bit of Lorcan Celtic History! A fine move starting from a throw out from "Cat"well to Steo "The Comet" Folan who found Derek "Coxy" Coughlan on the right wing who squared the ball across the 18 yard line and found Christy "199 Goals" Fearn on the right edge of the box, who historically became Christy "200 Goals" Fearn, when he beat the keeper with a dipping shot which led to uncontrollable celebrations and a pitch invasion by Paul "Rear of the Year" Noonan. Lorcan were now in party mood when Darren "Farty Pants" Bollard beat the last defender only to be taken down for a penalty, which he coolly converted. Lorcan now playing with total ease scored the sixth goal through Karl Price "Less" when he powered the ball past the keeper. The moment had come then for Ger "I'm out of Here" Fagan to make his much anticipated season debut. Ger was unlucky when the Referee did not award a goal when his shot had went under the keeper but was judged not to have crossed the line, but the keeper did when Ger followed through and put ball and keeper over line! The big man was not to be denied when Karl Price "Less" broke through the defence on the right hand side and waited for Ger "Shearer" Fagan to get into the box. When the cross came Ger rose like a salmon for a diving header at 2 foot high to put the ball in the net and to complete a memorable day for Lorcan Celtic! Now's the time to keep our feet on the ground and look towards our next match as a squad
Tuesday 1st September 2009 Lorcan Celtic (SUN) 3-0 Rush Paul Noonan, Alan Cullen (another peno!!!!) Ian Sweeney After a brilliant comeback against Ratoath, Lorcan looked to continue their form when they took on Rush on Tuesday night. The game started off slowly with both teams trying to get the ball down and play some football. It was Rush who got the first chance when their striker fumbled his way into the box and found himself one on one with the oncoming Ian "Captain Fantastic" Sweeney, but he never managed anything after that as the ball was scrambled away by Robbie "The" Meehan "Machine"! After that it was all Lorcan as they pushed to find the opener. Paul "Rear of the Year" Noonan picked the ball up in midfield and took on all in front of him, there was only going to be one winner as he got into the box and smashed the ball across the keeper into the far corner! Lorcan remained on top with Rush never looking like scoring. When Lorcan won a free-kick inside their own half nobody taught anything of it until Ian "Captain Fantastic" stepped up and showed them otherwise! As he looked up to see the keeper a yard off his line he realised he had the talent to gracefully glide the ball into the top corner (David Beckham-Like) Definitely Goal of the Season. All players and management were stunned and not one person celebrated, with Rafo "Bin Laden" trying to claim the flick off his long flowing locks! 2-0 up at the break and Lorcan looked in control and dominant. After a stern talking to and warning about complacency from Christy "199 goals" Fearn everybody went back onto the pitch in search of a 3rd and killer goal. It wasn't until 15minutes left when substitute Jamie "the monk" Connell got the ball down and took on the Rush defence, they had no choice but to take him down inside the box which gave Alan "Can't Score From Open Play" Cullen the chance to kill off the game and join "Rear of the Year" and Finn "The" Power at the top of the Golden Boot Chart!! 3-0 it finished giving Lorcan another 3 points and now they move forward in search of another victory when they take on Greenhills this Sunday! A great win by Lorcan as all players had a great game with the right attitude we will win this league!!!
Monday 31st August 2009 Beechill 3 - 2 Lorcan Celtic (SAT) (6.30 p.m.) Finn Power Karl Price After a fantastic first game win, Lorcan were brought back down to earth with a bang losing to Beechill 3 - 2. Lorcan started the game well taking the lead after 10 minutes through Finn Power, from their second real attack on a dreadful schoolboy pitch! The referee, who we'll call "bottler" had told both teams that he did not want to see anybody injured and that he wanted a good clean game but he let some absolutely dreadful challenges by Beechill players go un-punished! Lorcan went in 1-0 at the break. Beechill started the second half better pushing forward and the pressure soon paid off when they won a dubious corner, from which they scored due to bad marking in defence! Beechill's had their tails up and were pushing for a second, both Beechill players and line intimidating "Bottler" who again made terrible decisions and letting dreadful tackles go unchecked. Beechill got their second goal after a break and shot from the left converted the rebound after a fine save from "The Cat" Mc Geough. Beechill went 3-1 up from bad marking from a corner! Lorcan reorganised by making some substitutions and going 3 at the back. Lorcan then got their second goal through Karl Price with 10 minutes to go and pressured Beechill all the way to the final whistle! "Bottler" finished the game with not a hair out of place and having booked just 2 players for kicking the ball away, truly a "Homer".
Saturday 29th August 2009 Lorcan Celtic (SAT) 4-2 Ballyoulster Finn Power(2) Darren Bollard Christy Fearn At last the Saturday team finally got their season started against unbeaten Ballyoulster. After Jamie "The Monk" Connell had given his team talk both teams took to the field eager for a win! Lorcan settled quicker and played football while Ballyoulster tried rough house tactics. Lorcan's first goal came about when Will Murphy played a fine ball to the marauding Joey "offside" Foster on the left wing, who played a decent first time ball into the box which was missed by both defender and Darren "Farty Pants" Bollard but fell nicely to Finn "The" Power who coolly slotted past the keeper! After two goal-line scares cleared by Liam " The Donkey" Kelly and Steo "The Comet" Folan and one fine save by Brian "The Cat" Mc Geough in goal. Not long after Christy "198 Goals" Fearn won a header in midfield which the centre half misjudged to let Finn Power in to score the second. Lorcan went in 2-0 up at the break. The second half started with Lorcan still in control and pushing forward, they were awarded with a free kick after a foul on Finn "The" Power, Steo "The Comet" hit in a thunderous shot which the keeper could not hold and was finished off by the on rushing "Farty Pants" Bollard. The best was still to come as a fine move in midfield with Will Murphy passing the ball into the path of Christy Fearn who took the ball in his stride, seen the keeper off his line and coolly became Christy "199 Goals" Fearn by lobbing him from 40 yards which went in off the underside of the bar, definitely a contender for the goal of the season (Nooner hasn't got a patch on the old fox). Lorcan were still pushing looking for a fifth when a ferocious shot from the right by Derek "Cockers" Coughlan was well held by the keeper. With fifteen minutes left Lorcan made a few changes to the side and Ballyoulster capitialised by changing their formation to play four up front! They succeeded in getting their first after a mix up in defence and this gave them the encouragement to get their second with five minutes to go. Lorcan re-organised and held on, to win 4-2 and earn a deserved 3 points, which meant the watching supporters went home happy!
Thursday 27th August 2009 Ratoath 1-3 Lorcan Celtic (SUN) (7.45 p.m.) Paul Noonan (2) Dave Raftery This was Lorcan's chance to get their first 3 points of the season. The game started off quick with Collie White being put through on goal after 3 minutes but failing to punish Ratoath. The first half went by very quickly with both teams having very little attempts on goal. Ratoath came out the stronger in the second half but could never take advantage of the situation. With 20 minutes left Stephen Cantwell got sent off for his second bookable offence. Lorcan were now on the back foot and Ratoath took advantage of this by capitialising on a long ball over the top which allowed their striker to lift the ball over the oncoming keeper to make it 1-0 with 15 minutes left. Paul Noonan was brought on in the hope for Lorcan to find the equaliser and he didn't disappoint when he was the quickest to react to a mix up in the Ratoath penalty area to slam home making it 1-1. 2 minutes later a long ball over to the left hand side of the Ratoath box was caught on the volley by the oncoming Nooner and screamed past the goalkeeper into the top right hand corner! Lorcan sealed the win when a short kick out was intercepted by Dave Raftery who made no mistake to make it 3-1 and also, led to his "windmill" celebration which we hope to see many times this year. Tuesday 25th August 2009 Lorcan Celtic (SUN) 2-2 D.A.A. (7.00 p.m.) Alan Cullen (pen) Mark Ellis This game offered both teams the chance to get their first win of the season. In terms of excitement the game didn't let us down! Both teams started the game cautiously not wanting to give away anything in the first few minutes, Lorcan starting the better of the two, Dave Raftery was put through on goal on two occasions but on both times failed to hit the net. The break through wasn't far behind when a Stephen Cantwell pass was hand balled inside the box. Alan Cullen stepped up to make it 1- 0 sending the keeper the wrong way. D.A.A. looked ragged at the back and it wasn't long before Lorcan made it 2 when Mark Ellis snuck in after the keeper let a cross drop inside the box to tap it in. 10 minutes passed and Lorcan could have sealed the game with some glorious chances but failed on all occasions. D.A.A. clawed there way back into the game when a parried shot fell to the edge of the box and when struck goal bound it took a deflection to make it 2-1. This got their tails up and they put Lorcan under strong pressure for the next 10minutes finally getting their chance when the ref failed to see a handball which led to the ball getting cut back inside for the D.A.A. striker to knock home from point blank range. The second half was all Lorcan with chance after chance but failing to score. D.A.A didn't look like they could hold on for any longer but somehow they did. Gavin Valentine had a fine effort tipped onto the bar by the keeper. It ended 2-2 with D.A.A the much happier of the two but Lorcan got their first point on the board and hopefully can move this performance onto Thursday night when they face Ratoath Harps.
Sunday 23rd August 2009 Lorcan Celtic 1 - 4 St. Francis (11.am) Alan Cullen (pen) The first game of the season for Lorcan and we couldn't of got off to a worse start when Francis went 1-0 up after two minutes. We slowly got ourselves back into the game when Robbie Keogh took on their defence and was brought down with Alan Cullen equalising from the resulting penalty. All square at the break neither team looked like scoring but with 15 minutes left Paul Noonan was sent off for his second bookable offence which left Lorcan hanging on for the draw. Lorcan couldn't withhold the pressure and Francis made the extra man pay off when they snuck in to make it 2-1. Within the last 3 minutes Lorcan got caught going forward and were punished on two occasions making it 4-1 in the end!
Sunday 16th August 2009 Lorcan Celtic 2 - 1 Tymon Celtic Stephen Cantwell, Gavin Valentine
This was a great game for all involved, we played some excellent football in periods and truly deserved to win! We dominated the first half holding onto the ball for long periods and doing the damage when necessary. An error from their centre-half allowed Gavin Valentine in and he made no mistake scoring the first goal to make it 1 nil at the half. With many changes to the side Lorcan were on the back foot for the first ten minutes of the second half which led to the Tymon equiliser from sloppy marking for a corner. Lorcan came back into the game and a mazy run by Jamie Connell resulted in a free kick on the edge of the box. Cantwell stepped up and slotted the ball past the keeper with impressive style! Jamie had a goal disallowed just before the final whistle. A thoroughly deserved win for Lorcan, good signs for the season ahead!
Sunday 2nd August 2009 Sacred Heart 4-1 Lorcan Celtic (Sat)
The Saturday team had a great run out today working really hard to hold onto the ball and although it didn't work at times they never gave up till the final whistle. They made life hard for themselves with about half hour gone when Gavin Keane put the ball into his own net. They kept plucking away, coming close on a few attempts. Centre-half's were solid at the back throughout the game and this filtered through the side. Making changes every few minutes didn't help us when we got caught out with some good attacking football for Sacred Heart to make it 2-0. Unlike last year, Lorcan kept going and made the game more enjoyable and tried their best to play simple short football even when under pressure. At the beginning of the second half Sacred Heart came out flying and within a minute had won themselves a penalty resulting in a 3-0 lead. With many new faces on show it was the likely outcome but Lorcan got their well-deserved break when the Sacred Heart goalkeeper got closed down and his miss-kick fell to the feet of Peter Maxwell who struck the ball with his left from 25 yards lobbing the keeper. This was a good test for the lads and fitness showed near the end. There is a lot more work to be done but the signs are promising!
Sacred Heart 5-1 Lorcan Celtic (Sun)
Although both teams got beaten by a few goals, it was a very good run out for us. With many people missing from both teams we were really under-strength. Sunday team started off the day with a very promising start coming close with a Collie White effort which was very well saved. It died down for twenty minutes then with a well worked cross Sacred Heart found the back of the net. Lorcan kept fighting and played good football in periods. In the second half we went 2-0 down due to a CLEARLY offside goal (The referee had a stinker!) which really got our heads down. Then due to a nice bit of football Lorcan won a corner. From the resulting corner, it beat the first man and with a flick on at the front post the ball ended up in the net! Only 10 minutes left and we were on the up, but unfortunately they broke and with a big mix-up at the back they somehow snuck in to score there 3rd. Soon after they made it 4, then 5 but we made things easy by handing them the goals! It was a good day out for us, playing on the artificial pitch really tested us as the ball ran faster and it was hard on the feet! More work needed though if we want to hit the ground running this year!
Thursday 23rd July 2009 Lorcan Celtic (Sunday) 2 - 1 Aungier Celtic Collie White, Mark Ellis
Another win for Lorcan this time the Sunday team winning comfortably 2-1. After about 10 minutes a great move down the left with a smart chip to the back post to Collie White who snuck inside to score the opener. Five minutes later a long ball over the top which was over hit was dropped by the Aungier goalkeeper and Mark Ellis never gave up and followed the ball until it landed at his feet and he had the simple task of knocking it into an empty net. After missing a few chances it remained 2-0 at the break. As the second half went on Lorcan seemed to settle with 2-0 but got a little tired and with many changes in the side lost their rhythm. Aungier snuck a consolation goal with 10 minutes remaining but with some good defending and organisation Lorcan held out to record their first win of the year. It was a nice test for Lorcan with some very physical challenges and some nice football on both parts. Lorcan deserved the win!
Saturday 18th July 2009 Beaumont Athletic 0 - 4 Lorcan Celtic (Saturday Team) Gavin Valentine (2), Phil Reid, Darren Bollard
A great start to Pre-Season for Lorcan, a commanding 4 - 0 win away from home. After dominating the first half coming in 2 - 0 up at the break due to a brace of goals by Gavin Valentine in his first match for the club, they never looked back and had the match wrapped up 15 minutes into the second half when Phil Reid volleyed home from close range. With 5 minutes remaining Darren Bollard snuck in in-front of the defender to add the fourth and final goal. |
